1. HOW CAN APPLY AND HOW MUCH ARE THE TUITION FEES?

The admission office in cooperation with the financial office publishes the registration and tuition fees lists annually. There are two main lists, the “Home and EU students” one and the “International Students” list, which also include a detailed description about the methods of payments. Please see Fees section.

2. WHEN DO CLASSES START?

Commencement of all degree courses at GLOBAL is normally within the second week of October, each year.

3. WHICH ARE THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS?

Normally, applicants for undergraduate courses should hold the Cambridge Advanced Certificate or IELTS (no less than 6) or the TOEFL (paperbased: 550, computerbased: 213) or an equivalent English language qualification. Applicants for postgraduate courses must also have a fluent command of the English language (TOEFL: paperbased: 575, computerbased: 230 or IELTS: 6.5 or equivalent qualifications). Applicants for Bachelors Courses who have graduated from a High School where the language of tuition was English and/or applicants for Master’s courses who hold their first degree from and English University, might not be required to provide one of the above formal English Language qualifications, while they will be normally asked to sit a special exam designed to verify their level of English.

4. WHICH UNIVERSITY WILL AWARD MY DEGREE, AFTER I HAVE COMPLETED MY STUDIES?

GLOBAL , has a number of UK university partners which award their degrees for courses offered entirely at GLOBAL . Please see the relevant page of the course that you are interesting in to see which UK university awards the degree.

5. WHAT IS THE STUDENT VISA PROCEDURE?

All applicants receive along with their offer, the International Student Guide that provides detailed information for the student visa application procedure. The visa application requirements are different for each country, and although the above guide, as well as the International Office (international@global.edu.gr ) of GLOBAL , will supply you all required information, you should always contact the Greek Embassy in your country to get the most accurate and updated information.

6. WHAT IS THE RESIDENCE PERMIT FOR STUDIES PROCEDURE?

All non-EU students registered at GLOBAL should apply upon arrival for a student residence permit. The International Student Guide, accompanying the offer sent to admitted applicants, as well as the International office of GLOBAL (international@global.edu.gr) can and will provide you detailed information as well as guidance and support throughout the application process. The student residence permit is issued for one year and it is renewed at least one month before it’s expiry, for as long as the student needs to complete her/his studies.

7. I AM A NON-EU STUDENT. CAN I APPLY FOR A WORKING PERMISSION WHILE I AM STUDYING?

According to article 18, provisions 8-16 of law 2910/2001 (Government Paper, Issue 91/2 May 2001) international students who have received a student residence permit are allowed to work part -time in Greece. Labour laws for part-time employment are applied in these cases. Part-time employment is considered to be 20 or fewer hours per week.

8. DO I HAVE TO KNOW GREEK?

GLOBAL is a totally English-speaking environment. All classes are taught in English, lecturers and administrative staff, are all proficient in English, announcements, social activities, events, internal publications etc. are all communicated and realized in English. Besides, some 50% of the students are non - Greeks and almost the same (at a smaller percentage applies for academic staff as well). Still, it has to be noted that for the majority of -even- part-time jobs, at list basic knowledge and understanding of Greek is absolutely necessary. For that purpose, as well as in order to enhance the knowledge experience of its international students, GLOBAL , through the coordination of its Student Affairs Office provides free Greek classes to all its students.

9. WHICH STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES ARE AVAILABLE?

GLOBAL is popular choice for those who value the excellent reputation of our degrees. Still, in addition to the excellent academic services, there are a variety of student support services offered, through associated administrative offices. These could be summarized to the following: The International Office who advices on matters such as student visa application, residence permit and every day problems that occur when living on your own abroad. The Accommodation Office, which offers advice and guidance on all accommodation issues. The English Language Support Unit, which offers a wide range of services to assist students in improving and developing their language skills through both tutoring and the provision of self access English language resources. The Career Office, which provides a full career management service, offering extensive support for project and job searches throughout the course, as well as upon graduation, one-to-one career counselling, coaching and advice in preparing CVs as well as the organizing of a Career Week annually, with employer presentation and interviews. The Student Affairs Office, which organises entertainment and social events and provides welfare advise to the students from morning to evening, five days a week. 10. HOW MUCH DO I HAVE TO SPEND PER MONTH FOR ACCOMMODATION AND LIVING EXPENSES?

GLOBAL accommodation office offers advice and guidance on all accommodation issues. There is a good selection of private accommodation available to students, therefore students can be sure that they will be able to secure an apartment before their course begins. Accommodation expenses in Heraklion vary according to the area, condition of flat, facilities, etc. Usually flats in the centre are old and more expensive than in other areas. Furnished flats are difficult to find. However, GLOBAL can give guidance to the students in finding cheap or second-hand furniture. Rents for non-furnished flats of one room, kitchen and bathroom, usually start from EURO : 250 and up . Nevertheless, students usually share a flat, and in this case usually the cost for each student is between from 100 - 150 euro maximum. Other fixed expenses may amount up to EURO: 100 per month, approximately - including electricity, heating, water and condominium charges (building maintenance). In total, as a result of students' calculations, the average cost of living for one month (including all regular expenses) is around 300 - 450 euros.
