Introduction
This unique degree is distinct from ordinary business degrees in that it builds on the functional areas of business by focusing on management and leadership. It is for those who seek a career in leading others rather than being satisfied merely to follow.

Although this is not a sandwich degree, many students work part-time whilst studying (particularly in years 1 and 2) thus providing some work experience.

Modules Short Description

Organisational Behaviour

Organisational behaviour is an innovative & comprehensive module covering a wide spectrum of organisational topics. It has been designed to develop the critical thinking & analytical skills necessary to comprehend & appreciate organisations & their complex mechanisms. The module aims to encourage students to become involved participants in learning about organisational behaviour within a work setting. The module topics are aimed at students interested in understanding, interpreting, and attempting to predict the behaviour of people working in organisations. the module devotes considerable attention to encourage the development of these probing & diagnostic skills.

Business Environment

The module will introduce the key environmental factors, which effect people and business organisations around the world. The context will be primarily national using examples from many different countries around the world to illustrate fundamental economic, political, social and technological concepts in many different national contexts.

After studying the module students should be able to demonstrate an ability to understand the relationships, which exist between business entities and their external environment.

Professional Development

All students completing a Business Studies degree need to acquire a range of skills used in Business. This module introduces these skills and provides the foundation on which students will develop their skills as they progress through the programme.

Business Information Systems

To provide students with an understanding of both structured and unstructured information systems, and of the professional, legal and ethical issues involved in the management of such systems when set within a global context

Business Decision Making

Students should develop general numeracy and IT skills, be able to select and apply appropriate quantitative methods to a wide range of business problems and draw valid conclusions

Accounting & Finance

The objective of the module is to produce students who are financially literate and numerate, who can obtain accounting data from a variety of sources and analyse, interpret and present it an appropriate form. The module should provide a foundation in accounting, which can be developed further in other parts of the degree.

Marketing Management

To investigate the principles that underpin the marketing process and how they apply in businesses and non-for-profit organizations.

To provide students with a detailed overview of marketing to form the basis for further specialized study

To assist in the development of Key Skills through the learning and assessment activities in this module.

Management Accounting

At the end of this module, students should have a good understanding of a range of cost and management accounting concepts/techniques, relate these to the management needs and use them to make informed business decisions.

Market Research

To introduce students to the issues involved in market research, including the major approaches and techniques used in marketing analysis and planning.

To ensure that students can apply academic theory to specific situation to make informed decisions to assist in the development of Key Skills through the learning and assessment activities in this module.

Human Resource Management

The module is designed on the premise that HRM involves all managers within an organisation that all managers have an important role to play in the implementation of effective human resource management and should be aware of people, management issues and techniques. It is a broad based module geared towards students not wishing to specialise in HRM but who require an awareness of modern human resource management issues, approaches and techniques.

International Business

To enable students to assess the trends in the international economic environment and the factors which influence the development of international trade and direct foreign investment. To provide an analytical framework for assessing the implications for international business decision, and the developments in the international business environment.

Operation & Services Management

To enable students to understand the fundamental principles of Operations Management. To provide opportunities to apply Operations concepts and techniques to case organizations. To enable students to make judgements concerning the operational effectiveness of service and manufacturing operations within both the public and private sectors.

Financial Management

At the end of the module students should have a good understanding of contemporary developments in the financing aspects of Financial management, the underlying methodology of finance and the application of finance methodology to practical financial problems and decisions.Students should be able to understand, articulate and relate to the key academic issues in each of the broad areas under consideration, as well as formulate practical 'answers' to financial problems.
